No I dont think so. The chap told me "Order now we will send you a new set with a new firmware"....Gosh after reading all the reviews I decided not to buy. True they are using Samsung HDD. COMEX total let down, no good offers.

Hi Guys, any recommendation good media player to play MKV file?
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
I think the WD TV can play most mkv files... but sucks that it does not support rmvb

How come this set so terrible one, and so expensive
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
Lousy promotion, don't see any value from this.

I brought some 1080p files down to test the player at comex yet non of them works, very disappointed. Wonder this plaeyer can really play 1080p video or only minority of them.

For those who want to buy, better bring down your own HD files for testing. low resolution RMVB and Xvid can ignore since even $59 player can do the job well.

I had the earlier playon model and seriously the remote is terrible. It interfered with not only my sony tv but also the hifi and other stuff. I checked on the new model and they are still using the EXACT same remote. So anyone who is planning to get this do take note if you intend to put it next to your tv and hifi sound system. (moreover, as what an earlier posting said, the 1Tb offer is really NOT attractive when other products can do the same and more cheaper!) juz my 2 cents.

I brought my files down yesterday for testing, most of them can't work and the sales person there just ignore me all the way.

I guess that is the only thing they can do since they were very confident with their product yet it fails to do what it claims.

Some of my files that the AC ryan fails to play are not even 1080p, only 720p and they works on WDTV, which is a product quite some time ago.

Have your tried the WD HD player ?
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
WDTV is using sigma chip, doesnt support RM. Even WD TV2 will also be using sigma newer chip. So for those who watch RMVB can forget about WD unless you getting another cheaper rmvb player.

Most of the newer players coming in all will be using realtek chip. I believe the prices will be going down soon.

It's not the sigma chip 8635 that WDTV equiped with unable to decode RMVB format, it just a matter of codec. WD doesnt want to support RMVB for some unknown reason. check out wdtvforum.com for some hack tips including bittorrent client & network support. It is a great HD media player. AC RYAN is overpriced and overhyped popularity.

WDTV MINI support RMVB but only up to 1080i and not 1080p. Cheap and tiny.

look somewhere else if you want a be-all end-all media player.
it failed to play some of my quicktime files and
even some jpeg photos. test some samples first.
for the price it's asking for...i'd rate this as average.

Realtek chip got heat issue...anyway other player using this chip are selling at only $160-190. And they are able to mix down DTS, DTS-HD, DTS-HDMA audio. This one if you play DTS or True HD there will be no sound unless you have another decoder or DTS amplifier.

any good players to recommend then?
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
i recommend the popcornhour c-200 - you can buy 6th floor sim lim - can test your own files etc
more expensive at 470 but well worth the additional$
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
But that one cant play rmvb
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
if without rmvb, buy PS3 better..

The last show I brought my files to test, very disappointing as so many of them unable to be played. Even a small minority can be played, it is either choppy, constant slowdown or even the audio cannot sync with the video, or end up with a jam after 5 sec.

Can someone bring in a better player then this? at least bring in 1 with a sigma chip for stability.

Fri my friend will be going down to test the player with some files, will post the result here after the test.

$379 for this? If it is already selling for $249 without the 1TB HDD, where is the discount for this package? This is Comex, nor CONex lol.

And $130 for a samsung 1TB hdd with 3 years warranty, i rather get a $128 Western.D 1TB hdd with 5 years warranty. This offer is just crap.

Such offer so insignificant as there is no reduction in the price of the actual item and consider you can easy get HDMI cable off ebay for just $10 lol. Thumbdrive still need CC then can get. Hard Cash no good ah cannot give Thumbdrive.
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
But the package for the player already come with a HDMI cable.
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
Forget to add, 4GB thumb drive only if u use CitiBank Credit Card....
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
the so-called freebies are the offer lor....^^
2m-HDMI Cable + the 4GB Thumb Drive
Anonymous - 2 months ago - Reply - Permanent Link
There is no offer at all - usual retail price for the player alone is 250, 1TB internal 3.5' HDD is around 130, I have no idea what the seller is trying to mislead us into.
